PE & Rebound Therapy

Curriculum Intent & Implementation.

Physical Education at The Village School offers a broad, balanced, and sequenced curriculum that ensures progress and accessibility for all learners, promoting physical development, well-being, and inclusion through diverse, therapeutic, and competitive opportunities.

Our curriculum goes beyond weekly lessons, offering inclusive activities, external partnerships, and real-world opportunities for learners to develop skills, gain qualifications, and thrive. Led by skilled staff, our diverse and therapeutic program is tailored to meet the individual needs of our learners.

Multisport Activities: A wide range of sports are offered in our sports hall and outdoor spaces, encouraging teamwork, motor skills, and enjoyment.

Rebound Therapy: Delivered by certified staff, this approach uses trampolining to support movement, balance, muscle tone regulation, relaxation, sensory integration, and communication. It is particularly beneficial for learners with physical disabilities and is supported by our Occupational Therapy and Physical Management teams.

Aquatic Therapy and Swimming: learners access swimming and water-based therapy sessions in our on-site swimming pool, heated to a temperature that facilitates hydrotherapy sessions, promoting fitness, coordination, relaxation, the acquisition of aquatic skills, and confidence in the water.

Enrichment and External Partnerships

We are proud to collaborate with a number of outstanding organisations to extend our PE offer beyond the school gates:

Willesden Sports Centre Access: Sixth form learners attend weekly PE at the local sports hall, while learners at the Kingsbury Village site benefit from swimming lessons tailored to their needs. These off-site sessions promote skill development, independence, community engagement, and preparation for adulthood.

Snowbility: Provide adaptive skiing experiences that allow our learners to build confidence and physical skills in a fun and challenging environment. Our learners follow bespoke, accredited assessments to track their progress; some learners' work contributes to their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, whilst one of our learners gained a scholarship and the possibility of employment.

Middlesex FA SEN Schools League: Our learners participate in inclusive weekly football fixtures against other local schools, giving them the chance to develop and express their football skills while building teamwork, sportsmanship and social skills, embedding themselves into the broader community.

Bloomsbury Football Foundation Festivals: These events offer learners the opportunity to participate in structured football activities alongside peers and other schools, led by expert coaches. We have been fortunate to gain access to Premier League football stadiums and training facilities through this partnership.

Stoke Mandeville National Junior Games: Our annual residential trip to the birthplace of the Paralympic Games provides our learners with opportunities to take part in disability multi-sport events where they compete and celebrate their abilities, accessing the latest and most innovative disability sports equipment.

Hendon Football Club:Through our collaboration with Hendon FC, learners and their families can attend complimentary live matches at Silver Jubilee Park. Many learners have earned 1st4Sport Level 1 and 2 coaching qualifications and returned to deliver coaching to their peers. They also use Hendon’s facilities for interschool matches, including games with partner schools from the Middlesex SEN Schools League.
